Rather than making a brief visit to Verona, you might want to consider making Verona your "home base" for an extended stay, during which you can see everything worth seeing in Northern Italy. There are several great reasons
for staying in Verona for much of your time in the North.
First and foremost, Verona is an extraordinary city, small
and manageable, with both Roman and Medieval architecture
surviving. The 22,000 seat Roman amphitheater is second only
to the Roman Colosseum, and in better condition. It is a
vibrant and fully functioning city, the center of the
wine-producing region of Valpolicella, and it has a great cuisine worth sampling for more than one day.
Second, consider how appealing it is to stay in one comfortable place for a week, with a kitchen, rather than
going to 3 or 4 different places, and having to adjust to
new hotels and new neighborhoods almost every day. Aside
from the obvious benefit of staying in one great place and
getting to know it without moving all your things, consider
that trains from Verona to Venice are fast and inexpensive.
The train station in Venice is centrally located, is reached
from Verona in little more than an hour, and when you
arrive, you're ready to walk around Venice without bags, and
you can return to Verona whenever you like.
Next, consider that Verona is centrally located in
Northern Italy, and very close to Padua, Mantua, and Lake
Garda, as well as the Valpolicella wine-producing region,
which is just outside of Verona. You can take a train or bus
easily to any of the many attractions of the Veneto. The
towns on Lake Garda, and the remains of one of the most
magnificent Roman Villas (the Grottoes of Catullo in
Sirmione) are popular tourist sites only 30 minutes from
Verona. The Alpine towns of Bolzano and Merano are only
little more than hour north of Verona by autostrada.
So think about staying at L'Ospite for a week,
getting to know the excellent restaurants and shops in
Verona, and making forays outside the city whenever you
like, by train, bus, or rental car.
We are always available
to give you advice about how to do this. There are few
pleasures greater than getting up in the morning and not
having to pack and move to another destination!! Just
picture coming back everyday to a comfortable apartment,
with a kitchen, in a neighborhood that you get to know. It's
a better way to travel, and a better way to see Venice and
the other attractions that are so close to Verona. Spend
more time seeing interesting things and less time moving
your bags! Stay with us, and have a more relaxing time in
bella Verona.
